The Mohali police have booked an Akali leader for thrashing the Personal Security Officer (PSO) of Rajya Sabha MP Sukhdev Singh Dhindsa.

The Mohali police have booked an Akali leader for thrashing the Personal Security Officer (PSO) of Rajya Sabha MP Sukhdev Singh Dhindsa Friday night in a road-rage brawl.

Parminder Singh Sohana,a member of Shiromani Akali Dal and the vice-chairman of Labourfed,Punjab, along with three others, was driving from Landran towards Lakhnaur around 10 pm when a Maruti car, allegedly being driven by Dhindsa’s PSO Jagmal Singh, hit Sohana’s car while overtaking it. Enraged,Sohana chased and stopped the car, called for back-up and beat up the PSO.

Jagmal received several injuries on his face, head and limbs and is currently being treated at GMCH-32.

A case has been registered against Sohana, his accomplice Gurwinder Singh ‘Guri’ and 4-5 unknown persons for causing hurt, wrongful restraint, criminal intimidation and rioting with deadly weapons under sections 323,341,506,148 and 149 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).

According to the police,Sohana was driving an Ambassador with three others when Jagmal’s car accidentally hit his car. Sohana immediately caught hold of Jagmal and the four people allegedly started thrashing him. Sohana also called a few other people who arrived on two motorcycles and further beat Jagmal with rods and sticks. Jagmal then approached the police following which Sohana, too, went to the police.

A case was registered late Friday night but Sohana has not been arrested. Surprisingly,Sohana called a press conference in the evening to talk about the “false FIR” against him but later retracted from his statement and said that he had called the conference to promote a kabaddi tournament. On being hard-pressed to talk about the incident,he claimed innocence and termed it a minor incident. He alleged that the victim had received injuries because he was under the influence of alcohol and kept falling constantly.
