Now an airport in Ambala: Here’s what you need to know
The terminal will be constructed on a 20-acre site while the runway and essential infrastructure are already in place.

Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar Sunday laid the foundation stone of Ambala’s first domestic airport. The land for the airport has been acquired from the Defence ministry at a cost of approximately Rs 133 crore and its terminal will now be developed in the next six months at a cost of approximately Rs 20 crore which will cater to a minimum of 200 passengers.
The terminal will be constructed on a 20-acre site while the runway and essential infrastructure are already in place.
Accompanied by Deputy Chief Minister Dushyant Chautala and state Home Minister Anil Vij, Khattar said in Ambala that the establishment of this airport would not only attract increased investments but also foster industrial growth in the region, leading to the creation of numerous job opportunities.

The CM also discussed the Ude Desh Ka Aam Nagrik (UDAN) scheme initiated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi which aims to make air travel accessible to all, including those wearing slippers. Under the scheme, the Haryana government has applied for routes from Ambala to Srinagar, Ambala to Varanasi, Ambala to Jaipur, Ambala to Amritsar, and Ambala to Delhi.
Khattar said that approvals for multiple routes, including Dehradun, Lucknow, Amritsar, Jaipur and Shimla, are expected shortly, promising enhanced convenience to the residents of Ambala and its adjoining districts.
He also talked about the remarkable strides Haryana has made in the aviation sector despite the state’s initial lack of any airports. He attributed this growth to the proximity of Gurgaon to Delhi’s airport, which has spurred substantial development. Jevra Airport is set to further contribute to this progress, with a considerable positive impact expected on the Faridabad district and the broader region’s development.
The CM said that the Chandigarh airport, of which 50 per cent belongs to Haryana, is also utilised by the state government, but its usage is limited to Panchkula to Ambala. Similarly, there are small airports in Haryana, such as Karnal, Bhiwani, Narnaul and Sirsa, which are benefiting the citizens.
On the occasion, Dushyant Chautala said that 14 crore citizens in this country travel at maximum capacity on trains in a year while 17 crore citizens travel in the economy class by air. “Therefore, the aviation sector is continuously growing, and within this sector, the more facilities we can provide to our country’s 130 crore population as quickly as possible, the more this number will increase,” he said.
He said that when their government was formed, the budget for civil aviation was Rs 38 crore while today it has reached Rs 957 crore.
