After students,now PG accommodation for pets!

After the concept of paying guest accommodation for boys and girls gaining popularity among house owners in Chandigarh,Mohali and Panchkula,it is now the turn of PG accommodation for pet dogs to catch the fancy of enterprising people here.

A number of pet hostels have sprung up in Tricity after the Haryana government opened a dog hostel in Panchkula. Residents going out on summer vacations book the government-run dog hostel in advance.

M K Kumar,owner of Dog Lover’s Point,Panchkula said: “We have 11 kennels in all. A variety of food options is offered to the dogs; like Pedigree,Milk,Yoghurt and chapatti,you name it and we have it. The charges are Rs 250 per day. The dog is taken out for a walk thrice on a daily basis. In case a dog falls sick during the course of its stay here,correspondence with an efficient dog is duly initiated”.

Another pet shop owner at Zirakpur,Baljinder Singh says: “Since it is extremely hot these days,we offer a provision of coolers for the hounds. The charges range from Rs 350 for the large breed of dogs,Rs 300 for the medium sized breed and Rs 250 for the small dogs. The menu for the dog’s consists of eggs,rice,Pedigree and milk”.

Inquiries from Government Dog Care Centre,Panchkula revealed that all the existing kennels are full at present and there is a long waiting list. The Haryana government run Centre in Sector 3,Panchkula,is the biggest and most modernised dog care centre in Tricity,having 24 kennels.

Services like shampoo,morning and evening walk,health check-up’s and pedicure are available at the Centre with extra charges. It also provides services like 24-hour OPD,surgery,ultrasound and radiography.

The charges are Rs 100 for small breed dogs,Rs 150 for medium breed and Rs 200 for large breed dogs for a 24- hour stay at the clinic. The Centre allows only healthy dogs in the hostel. However,if the pet develops any health problems,proper medical treatment is given by a specialist. The procedure is free of cost.

Besides,dogs are given nutritious meals,including vegetarian and non-vegetarian food ,along with the regular one-and-a-half hour walk and dry grooming.

Chandigarh’s first ever hostel for dogs,Dr. Raghvinder’s Doggies Day Kennel claims to have a parlour as well as a swimming pool to keep the pets cool. A private dog hostel owner in Sector 7,Chandigarh told that he has been receiving calls for advance booking but the dog hostel is already full. This Centre charges between Rs 200 to Rs 400 for 24-hour stay subject to the level of comfort and facilities provided to the pets irrespective of the breed. Round-the-clock Air Conditioner facility is also provided to the animals.

Ashok Kumar Yadav,a senior Haryana IAS officer and a resident of Chandigarh said: “We leave our dog at dog hostels whenever we go out during vacations. Before the advent of such hostels,leaving our darling puppy used to be a major problem for us. We do not face any such problem now,as the pet hostels are well groomed”.
