After 4 decades of service,Western Command chief of staff retires

Lt Gen Baljeet Singh,Chief of Staff,HQ Western Command bid farewell to arms after a distinguished service of more than over four decades.

Lt Gen Baljeet Singh,Chief of Staff,HQ Western Command bid farewell to arms after a distinguished service of more than over four decades. In a solemn wreath laying ceremony at Veer Smriti War Memorial,Chandimandir Military Station,he paid tribute to martyrs’ before hanging his uniform.

An alumnus of La Martiniere College,Lucknow,and National Defence Academy,Khadakvasla,he was commissioned on March 31,1972 in 66 Field Regiment. Singh is a Qualified Flying Instructor (QFI) and has been an instructor in Jammu and Jalandhar Air OP Squadrons. He has flown different types of aircrafts and helicopters for over 10 years before reverting to artillery.

He commanded 219 Med Regt in Counter Insurgency environment in Pattan,Jammu. He was the first director general of Weapon & Equipment Directorate at Army Headquarters where he served for two years before taking over as the Chief of Staff at HQ Western Command in Apr 11. He is also the recipient of the Vishisht Seva Medal.

During the past one year as the chief of staff of HQ Western Command,Singh contributed to the overall operational preparedness and visible improvements at Chandimandir Military Station.
