The Chandigarh Administration has ordered a probe to ascertain how Durga Das Foundation (DDF) started Strawberry Fields kindergarten school in Sector 24 on land allotted to Bharat Sewak Samaj for cultural and beneficent purposes.
The inquiry,ordered by UT Adviser Pradip Mehra,will be conducted by Ajoy Sharma,Special Secretary (Finance and Higher Education). Chandigarh Administration officials who were at the helm when DDF opened the school are likely to be questioned.
The CBI has already begun a preliminary enquiry against Administration officials and DDF directors. Mohali resident Manpreet Singh had complained that officials had allowed DDF to run a commercial venture in the form of a school on land allotted for a different purpose. The one-acre plot was allotted to BSS in 1967 for cultural and beneficent purposes at the rate of Rs 6 per sq yard,and additional acreage at the rate of Rs 4 per sq yard.
Ajoy Sharma said,I have received the orders. I have been asked to complete the probe within 30 days and submit a report. DDF director Atul Khanna did not respond to phone calls and messages seeking his version.
