Perhaps Sub Inspector H S Sekhon, who was recently sent to Police Lines for his involvement in a brawl, was rehearsing at the spot. After all,Sekhon claims to have bagged several roles in Bollywood and it is a known fact that there are umpteen action scenes in Hindi cinema. But Mr Sekhon appears to have forgotten that real life is much difficult and “hard hitting” than reel life. Sources say the body-builder Sub Inspector was thrashed by a bunch of youths. Last heard, the permission granted to Sekhon to try his luck in Hindi cinema is also under review.

Mind it !

Chandigarh Police officials ought to know they are not supposed to disclose the identity of a woman who is a crime victim. When asked for information by a journalist about the details of a case,a cop kept insisting on the “sensitivity” of the case but forgot to conceal the victim’s name after which the journalist had to remind the cop of the law of the land.

Tough Time

While terminal exams have already begun in schools, some students are still knocking the DPI (S)’s door everyday with applications in their hands, requesting to adjust them in any of the schools in Class XI. The deputy DEO and the in-charge for Class XI admissions is trying her best to adjust these students but now, even the principals of the periphery schools are not ready to take these students in at any cost. Even those who managed to get admission at the eleventh hour are facing a tough time as they have little time to prepare for examinations that are approaching.

the waiting game

Even after the end of the six-day long hunger strike by the protesters,it appears that Panjab University (PU) authorities are yet to heave a sigh of relief. While the authorities continue to remain tight-lipped over the oath-taking ceremony of the new Students’ Council members, fearing further protest by the rival student organisations,it has been confirmed that the keys of the Students’ Council office have been handed over to the office bearers quietly.

Royal taste

The white ambassador car,a relic of old bureaucratic structure with two red flags attached to the rear-view mirror and “Warning Vehicle” written on it is not a common sight on the roads of the City Beautiful. Propelled by curiosity to find out who the VVIP was,the reporter followed the vehicle to find a high-ranking police officer sitting in the car.

Welcome

The entire Chandigarh Administration seems busy with one project – Welcoming the Prime Minister. So busy were the babus that they had nothing much to cater to than making and overseeing arrangements for the PM’s visit. Be it a high profile case or a file pertaining to an important project, for the senior officers of Chandigarh Police and babus of the Administration, everything else took a back seat. “After all the PM does not visit the city everyday” quipped a senior officer.

More trouble

Already facing heat for his alleged involvement in the textbook scam,Punjab Education Minister Sikandar Singh Maluka may have something additional to worry about if the claims made by a self- confessed Maluka-hater are found to be correct. The “hater” has been sending SMSes to journalists claiming the internal exams being held in government schools in the state have been leaked. ‘Sarkari schoolan de garib bachiaan naal khilvarh (fate of government school students in jeopardy)”,read the SMS.
