61 get notices for water wastage

The residents found washing cars or courtyards using pipes,watering of lawns or filling coolers were issued notices.

The civic body issues notices for the first violation. For the second violation,fines are imposed. This year,the fine has been increased from Rs 500 to Rs 2,000. Besides,the equipment used is also impounded. The fine is added to the water bills of the residents.

The drive will continue till June-end.

Last year,the MC had fined just two city residents for wasting water. Officials have claimed that this year the MC will be stricter with those wasting water. With the demand for water increasing during summer,the checks are conducted in order to ensure that the residents of the upper storeys receive adequate water.
