4 autos impounded for overloading school children

The Chandigarh State Transport Authority on Wednesday impounded four three-wheeler vehicles for carrying more than the prescribed capacity.

The Chandigarh State Transport Authority (STA) on Wednesday impounded four three-wheeler vehicles for carrying more than the prescribed capacity. The vehicles were impounded in a special drive launched by the State Transport Authority,UT,after reports that they were carrying more than 10 children.

“In the special drive,four three-wheelers bearing the numbers PB-65-E-0399,PB-65-E-0671,PB-65L-9939 and PB-65-D-5385 were found carrying more than 10 children. These four three-wheelers have been issued challans and impounded at the Sector 11 police station,Chandigarh,” an official UT spokesman said.

The spokesman advised the three-wheeler operators not to overload their vehicle with school children. “All the parents are also requested not to send their children in overloaded three-wheelers so as to ensure the safety of their wards,” he said.

The drive has been launched by the authorities as frequent complaints have been pouring in against three-wheeler vehicle operators of not following the prescribed norm and ferrying more than 10 school children in their vehicles.

The residents of the city are hopeful that such drives will continue for more days so that a clear message is conveyed to three-wheeler operators.
