24-year-old crushed under speeding car

The deceased was dragged upto 100 m on the road.

In a hit-and-run accident at Phase V in Mohali, a 24-year-old died after he was hit by a speeding car going towards Kharar. The accident took place in wee hours on Saturday when the deceased, Harpreet Singh, was crossing the road near the gurdwara in Phase V.

The deceased, a resident of Amritsar, was dragged upto 100 m on the road. He was working in a BPO in Industrial Area Phase VII, and was returning from work when the accident took place.

A colleague who was accompanying him informed the police control room. Although many residents gathered at the spot, the driver of the car managed to flee. However, police have recovered some broken pieces of bumper, glasses and headlights having the ‘part-number’.

Investigating officer of the case, Dilbag Singh, said that Harpreet was crushed under the car.

His father, Mangat Ram, said that he was informed by the police officials around 11.30 am on Saturday. Mangat Ram said that Harpreet had completed his MSc and was preparing to join Border Security Force (BSF). He added that the family was dependent on Harpreet as their financial condition is not sound.
