16-yr-old kills self

Pooja,a 16-year-old resident of Baltana village in Zirakpur allegedly committed suicide after setting herself afire at her house on Monday night. Police said Pooja’s mother and elder sister were present in the house at the time of incident. They rushed her to GMCH-32 in Chandigarh with 80 per cent burns,to which she succumbed on Tuesday. Since no suicide note was recovered,the police have initiated inquest proceedings.

Passport scam
MOGA: Another accused has been arrested in the passport scam which rocked the state last year. Police arrested travel agent Manjit Singh and produced him in a local court,which sent him to police remand for two days. With this,the number of arrests in the case has gone up to five. Former cops,Ranjit Singh,Jaswinder Singh and Gurdial Singh,along with travel agent Bhupinder Singh Brar are already in judicial custody. District police had on January 23 filed a chargesheet against these accused for obtaining passports on fake names and addresses.
