Police detained 20 persons late Thursday in Vadodara after alleged stone pelting during Ram Navami procession in Kumbharwada area of old city, the second such incident in the day. In the afternoon, police “diffused” tension between two communities in Fatepura area during another procession to mark Ram Navami.

The incidents triggered tension as multiple processions made their way through the old city area. In the evening, despite heavy police deployment following the face-off between two communities, miscreants threw stones at the police during a Ram Navami procession.

Denying that the incidents were “communal clashes” police said they have detained 20 persons for pelting stones.

Singh added that the city police station will register an FIR after examining the CCTV footage of the incident. “We are examining the CCTV footage to decide if more than one FIRs is needed,” said Singh.
