Late-night traffic banned on Hebbal flyover from Bengaluru airport side till Wednesday amid BDA development work

The Hebbal flyover has been a major bottleneck since the BDA began dismantling two spans of its loop connecting to Hebbal from the KR Puram side of the Outer Ring Road (ORR) in a bid to broaden the flyover.

Late-night traffic has been banned on the Hebbal flyover, which is a link to the Bengaluru International Airport, from May 17 to May 21 in the wake of fresh development works being taken up by the Bengaluru Development Authority (BDA).

The BDA will construct additional ramps to the flyover from the KR Puram side towards Mekhri Circle. “As part of the said work, installation of 7 steel girders of 33.5 m length on the railway tracks will be undertaken from 17.05.2025 to 21.05.2025 every day for 3 hours from 12 am to 3 am,” the Bengaluru traffic police announced.

Due to the work, all types of vehicles will be prohibited on the Hebbal flyover “from Esteem Mall towards Mekhri Circle side,” it added. This will affect vehicles coming towards Bengaluru from the airport late at night.

“Vehicles moving from the International Airport towards Mekhri Circle must enter the service road at Esteem Mall and take a right turn at Hebbal Circle onto the outer ring and proceed towards Tumkur road, take a left turn at Kuvempu Circle and reach Mekhri Circle via New BEL Road,” the police said.

The Hebbal flyover has been a major traffic bottleneck over the last year after the BDA began dismantling two spans of the flyover’s loop connecting to Hebbal from the KR Puram side of the Outer Ring Road (ORR) in order to broaden the flyover.

The work on the flyover has led to long traffic snarls, with vehicles from Nagawara, Tumkur Road, and the ORR service road merging under the flyover. Motorists face delays of up to 30 minutes during peak hours while navigating this stretch.

The traffic flow in the region has also been affected by the Bengaluru Metro rail work on the ORR and airport stretches.
