Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister D K Shivakumar Thursday said the Hebbal flyover ramp will be ready by April 30 and inaugurated in May.
“A parallel road is being constructed near the BDA land at Hebbal flyover, and it must be completed by April 30 for inauguration in May. Contractors have been instructed accordingly. To ease congestion on the Tumakuru-KR Puram Road, BDA, Metro, and BBMP must coordinate efforts. BDA (Bangalore Development Authority) will oversee this project,” Shivakumar said during a press conference at the BMRCL office on Thursday.
Earlier, a 100-day ultimatum was issued by Karnataka Chief Secretary Shalini Rajneesh in January urging BDA to expedite the project. However, BDA officials stated that the construction has been a challenge alongside heavy vehicular traffic at Hebbal, a key junction connecting the Kempegowda International Airport and IT hubs like KR Puram.
The project involves constructing two exclusive lanes to segregate airport traffic from other vehicles.
As part of the ongoing project, two spans of the loop connecting KR Puram to Hebbal are being dismantled, causing temporary road width reductions and disrupting traffic flow. These disruptions have led to long traffic snarls, with traffic from Nagawara, Tumakuru Road, and the ORR service road merging under the flyover. Motorists currently face delays of up to 30 minutes during peak hours while navigating this stretch.
The project also includes the construction of a composite steel girder bridge, which recently received clearance from the railways for span placement above railway land. According to a BDA source, two steel girders measuring 20 metres and 38 metres are being installed to accommodate future railway line expansions planned by South Western Railways and other agencies.
Funds for Bengaluru’s development
Shivakumar also stated that a report will be submitted to Chief Minister Siddaramaiah on funding for Bengaluru infrastructure projects ahead of the state budget. “Since the state budget is approaching, discussions have been held with officials regarding necessary funding for Bengaluru’s development and irrigation projects. A report will be submitted to the chief minister on Friday,” he added.
