Three men died on Wednesday night after a water tank on the terrace of a four-storey furniture shop in Bengaluru fell on them while they were eating food at a roadside stall, the police said.

The police identified the deceased as Arul (40), Kota Nageshwarr Rao (32) and Karan Thapa (32) and said that the incident took place at around 10.45 pm at an area opposite Shivajinagar bus stand.

According to Deputy Commissioner of Police (East) Bheemashankar S Guled, the water tank on the terrace of Oak Town shop fell on the road along with a portion of the parapet wall. At the time, a few people were standing near a street food vendor and eating food on the footpath adjacent to the four-storey building.

The DCP said that there were violations on Oak Town’s part as they only had permission for three floors. “Also, the supporting wall was not strong which led to the incident. We have informed civic agencies to gather information and further probe is underway. We have registered a case under Section 304 A (causing death due to negligence) of the Indian Penal Code,” Guled said.
