‘Harassment’: Senior Kannada actress Shyamala Devi files case against son, daughter-in-law over property dispute

The actress, who is the wife of veteran director the late Siddalingaiah, has alleged that her son Nitin S Gouda and daughter-in-law Smitha have been pestering her seeking to acquire the rights to her properties.

Senior Kannada actress B Shyamala Devi, 67, has filed a police complaint against her son and daughter-in-law alleging torture and harassment over property issues.

The senior actress, who played character roles in films, has alleged in the complaint that her son Nitin S Gouda and daughter-in-law Smitha Gouda have been pestering her seeking to acquire the rights to properties in her name.

According to the police complaint, Devi was attacked on several occasions between 2018 and 2023 by the two over her refusal to transfer her properties to their names. She has alleged that her son, who had paid for her medical care using a credit card, has been demanding its repayment.

She also claimed to have been abused by the couple and threatened with dire consequences when she issued a legal notice to them asking to vacate the house where they live jointly.

The Basavanagudi police have registered a case and are investigating the matter, officials said.

Shyamala Devi’s husband Siddalingaiah’s directorial ventures include Bangarada Manushya starring the Kannada film icon Dr Rajkumar.
