Metro line to Bengaluru Airport to be ready by June 2026: D K Shivakumar

Works of the Bengaluru Metro line connecting the city to Kempegowda International Airport Ltd (KIAL) at Devanahalli will be completed by around June 2026, Deputy Chief Minister and Bengaluru Development Minister D K Shivakumar said Tuesday.

The line from Kasturinagar to KIAL is being constructed under the Phase-2B of the Bengaluru Metro works. It will be a part of the Blue Line and will have 17 stations.

“Airport line will be completed by June 2026, plus or minus three months,” the minister said. The Silk Board to K R Puram line (Phase 2A) will also be completed around the same time.

Shivakumar was briefing reporters following a meeting with Bengaluru Metro Rail Corporation Ltd (BMRCL) officials. Among other lines, works connecting Baiyappanahalli Metro Station with K R Puram will be completed by July, while the Kengeri-Challaghatta extension works will be done by August or September. “The extension from Nagasandra to Madawara will be completed by September or October,” Shivakumar said.

The Yellow Line from Bommasandra to R V Road will be completed by October or November, the minister said.

The state government has also submitted proposals to the Centre for clearance to take up works of other Metro phases. Surveys are also being carried out for the Phase 3A line from Hebbal to Sarjapur Road, he said.

The BMRCL is also mulling measures to increase its revenue. “Posting ads inside and outside Metro coaches is being discussed,” he said, adding that policy hindrances that have prevented the same will be cleared.
