The Bengaluru police arrested a 30-year-old man Sunday night for allegedly cutting the udders of two cows and injuring another in the Vinayaknagar area of the city.

According to the police, the man identified as Sheikh Nasru from the Champaran district of Bihar, and remanded to judicial custody till January 25.

S Girish, Deputy Commissioner of Police (West), said the accused was drunk when he mutilated the cows.

Girish said Nasru worked as a helper in a plastic and cloth bag stitching shop 50 metres away from the place of the incident. No other person is found to be involved, he added.

The cows have been treated, and are presently out of danger, said officials.

A milk vendor, who owns the cows, told reporters Sunday the incident took place in the early hours. He said the cows were bleeding at their udders when he woke up to milk them.

Soon after the incident came to light, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) staged a protest and Leader of Opposition R Ashok visited the spot. Ashok said they would observe a ‘black Sankranti’ if the government “did not initiate strict action against the jihadis” behind the incident.
