The Karnataka police have filed a case against Minister D Sudhakar and three others following a woman’s complaint alleging her daughter was assaulted over a property dispute.
The Yelahanka police registered an FIR after a video of Sudhakar allegedly threatening individuals over the dispute went viral. He has been charged under the SC/ST Atrocities Act and IPC sections including trespass.
According to the September 10 complaint by Subamma, Sudhakar arrived at the disputed property with over 35 people and a JCB machine on September 9. They forcibly entered and tried demolishing the building when no one was home.
When Subamma’s family confronted them, the accused allegedly assaulted her daughter and used casteist abuses. Police have named real estate developers Seven Hills and traders, Sudhakar, Srinivas G, Bhagyamma, and 35-40 unknown persons.
A senior police officer stated, “Based on the complaint received, we have registered the FIR. All the allegations are being investigated.”
Following the incident, Sudhakar reportedly met with Chief Minister Siddaramaiah and Home Minister G Parameshwara to discuss the case. The minister maintains that the land deal was conducted legally several years ago and denies the allegations against him.
Meanwhile, BJP leader and former Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai has called for Sudhakar’s resignation and urged the police not to succumb to any pressure but to handle the case as they would any other.
In response to the allegations, Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar called it a false case and ruled out Sudhakar’s resignation. Yelahanka police have registered case under sections 427, 143, 147, 149, 447 and 323 of Indian Penal Code (IPC) and sections 3(1)(r), 3(1)(g), 3(1)(f) and 3(1)(s) of SC and ST (prevention of atrocities) act.
