(Representational image) The Karnataka High Court Wednesday ordered a partial pause on an earlier order directing the implementation of approval processes for high-security vehicle registration plate manufacturers.
In the original order, the petitioners, High Security Registration Plate Manufacturers Association of India, had challenged the state government notification issued on August 17 and 18, which had ordered that high-security plates from manufacturers authorised by vehicle manufacturers shall be supplied and attached by original dealers.
The government orders stated that the fixing of the plates by vehicle owners must be completed within three months of the notification.
While declining to pass an interim stay order, a division bench of Chief Justice Prasanna Varale and Justice Krishna Dixit directed in clause B of its order, “The state government, within a period of 15 days from today, shall finalise and publish the process that is to be followed by the vehicle manufacturers to accord approval for every licence plate manufacturer with Type Approval Certificate.”
The bench noted that if this clause was temporarily paused, it would enable the relevant stakeholders to deliberate on the matter.
