The Karnataka Police Monday said they have sent the voice samples of arrested BJP MLA Munirathna and the complainant Cheluvaraju in the contractor harassment case to the Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL).

In his complaint, Cheluvaraju alleged that Munirathna initially demanded Rs 20 lakh in 2021 from him over a solid waste disposal contract of the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike. The contractor has also accused the MLA of assault and verbal abuse.

Cheluvaraju Monday said he would release two more audio records and submit them to the police on Tuesday.

Notably, Munirathna was arrested on Saturday while he was allegedly trying to flee. He is an accused in another case besides the contractor harassment one.

In the other case registered by former corporator Velunayakar, Munirathna has been booked under sections of the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act and the Indian Penal Code.

Meanwhile, Sowmya Reddy, General Secretary, All India Mahila Congress, also filed a complaint against Munirathna before the Karnataka State Commission for Women. She accused the BJP MLA of using foul language and demeaning women. Commission President Dr Nagalakshmi Choudhary said they would issue a notice and seek a response from the MLA.

The BJP, too, has issued a notice, asking Munirathna to respond to the allegations against him.

A delegation of Congress ministers and MLAs from the Vokkaliga community also met Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah on Monday and requested him to initiate stern action against the BJP MLA for allegedly using casteist slurs against the former corporator and their community.

Congress Minister N Cheluvarayaswamy, who was a member of the delegation, said, “The situation is such that not only our Vokkaliga community, but the entire society should boycott him (Munirathna). Our government has already taken action against him by arresting him and he was produced before the court.”

Munirathna’s judicial custody will end on Tuesday and the police are likely to seek custody of the MLA.
