Karnataka will soon get a second international cricket stadium near Tumakuru, around 80 kilometre from Bengaluru. At present, the M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru is the only international cricket stadium in the state.
Chief Minister Siddaramaiah laid the foundation stone for the stadium Monday, construction of which is expected to be completed in the next two years. According to the chief minister, the international stadium under the Karnataka State Cricket Association (KSCA) will come up in a 50-acre area. “The stadium will boost the development and economic growth of the district,” Siddaramaiah said at the foundation laying ceremony for the stadium.
According to Siddaramaiah, KSCA has also sought land for the construction of a stadium at Mysuru for which the government will provide land in the coming days.
The chief minister also participated in an event to lay the foundation stone for various development projects in Tumakuru. Speaking at the event, he said that the five guarantee schemes of the state government have accelerated the economic progress of Karnataka. “Karnataka stands second in terms of attracting foreign investment and tax contribution to the Centre. This is possible due to the contribution of people from all castes and religions,” he said.
The state government will continue providing programs for the economic and social empowerment of citizens, the chief minister said, adding that special programs will be announced for the weaker sections in the coming days.
