After 75 years, Bengaluru’s Mount Carmel College to open its doors for male students

The autonomous institution has invited applications from all eligible students for undergraduate and postgraduate courses for the upcoming academic year.

To mark its diamond jubilee celebrations this year, Mount Carmel College (MCC), which is one of Bengaluru’s iconic women-only colleges, is all set to switch to co-ed education by opening up admissions for the academic year 2024-25 for men as well.

Suma Singh, Registrar of Academics at Mount Carmel College, who announced the decision on Thursday said, “The management decided to open admission for boys to support the institution’s plans and ensure greater diversity on campus.”

The move comes as the college is in the process of attaining the ‘deemed-to-be-university’ status.

The autonomous institution has invited applications from all eligible students for undergraduate and postgraduate courses for the upcoming academic year. The college opened select PG courses for boys in 2015 after receiving permission from the Bangalore University Academic Council to admit male students.

The college currently has 13 boys enrolled in PG courses. The institution offers around 45 undergraduate courses and 21 postgraduate courses.
