BBMP extends last date for 5% rebate on property tax till June 30
Usually, the BBMP offers a five per cent rebate in the first month of the financial year and extends it by a month.

The Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) Thursday informed that it has extended the last date for the five per cent rebate on property tax till June 30. The rebate will apply to those who are paying property taxes on or before June 30.
The state government also issued an order in this regard on June 1. The rebate was extended on the directions of Deputy Chief Minister and Bengaluru Development Minister D K Shivakumar.
The rebate had expired on April 30. Usually, the BBMP offers a five per cent rebate in the first month of the financial year and extends it by a month. However, due to a code of conduct in place, the extension was not provided to the property owners this time.
According to BBMP officials, those who have paid property taxes in May will get the five per cent rebate. “The rebate will be adjusted to their property taxes when they make the payment next year. Since most of the BBMP staffers were on poll duty, it was difficult for the property owners to pay the taxes on time,” BBMP officials said.
In May, Congress functionaries had demanded the BBMP to extend the rebate period by a month. While the property tax collection in 2021-22 was Rs 3,033 crore, it increased to Rs 3,758 crore in 2022-23. The BBMP has set a target of Rs 4,790 crore to be collected in the year 2023-24 through property tax.
