Two persons were killed after their speeding sedan inexplicably ascended and fell off an under-construction flyover on NH-8 near Ranoli in Vadodara Monday morning.

The deceased have been identified as Sunil Chaudhary and Jitesh Koli — both employees of Talwalkar’s gym who were travelling from Surat to Gandhinagar. The incident occurred at about 4 am when they took an under-construction bridge on the national highway in the “absence of a signboard warning drivers”.

According to eyewitnesses, when the driver noticed a dead end ahead, he applied the brake, but the car skidded off the flyover. The two died on the spot.

A case has been registered with Chhani police, even as families of the two deceased demanded action against “negligent authorities”.
“There is no case against anyone as it is clearly an accident. We have filed a case against the driver,” said a police officer.

Police said they have questioned the supervisor of the bridge, contracted to IRB Infrastructure Developers. The police officer said, “The supervisor told us that they barricade the area in the evening to stop cars from taking the road. However, truck drivers looking for night halts remove the barricades and park their vehicles along the incomplete flyover. The barricades were removed in a similar way last night too.”

Commissioner of Police E Radhakrishana said, “We will file a case of negligence against whoever is responsible for this.We will book the contractor.”
