Two people were killed and six others injured after a hit-and-run case involving a two-wheeler and an unidentified vehicle led to a collision between a tempo truck and a bus near a private film studio on the Ajwa Road in Vadodara early on Saturday morning.

According to the police, a bike-borne couple from Dahod was killed in a hit-and-run case and six people were left injured when a luxury bus overturned while trying to escape a collision with a truck which crashed into the divider while trying to catch a glimpse of the first accident.

The police said the three accidents occurred at the same spot within a span of half an hour from 6 am. While the bike-borne couple was killed, their two children — aged four and one — survived the accident. The police said that the couple was travelling towards Ahmedabad and the truck was travelling towards Surat.

Meanwhile, an approaching luxury bus, carrying 60 passengers, unsuccessfully tried to escape a collision with the truck and lost its balance and overturned, crashing into the compound wall of Laxmi film studio after skidding off the road. Six passengers of the bus, including the driver, suffered injuries.

Three ambulances rushed to the spot to ferry the injured to the SSG hospital and the bus was removed from the spot with the help of a crane. The bus was said to be carrying passengers from Rajasthan to Surat.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (Traffic), Jyoti Patel told The Indian Express, “The deceased couple is survived by their two children aged four years and about one-year-old. We have contacted their relatives.”

Kapurai police station in Vadodara is in the process of registering two FIRs in the incident. Police Inspector KK Jadav said, “We have registered the complaint of the truck driver who was hit from behind by the luxury bus. We will record the statements of the bus driver and the passengers too. A separate FIR will be lodged in the case of the fatal accident that killed the couple by their relatives. We are yet to identify the vehicle involved in the first hit-and-run.”
