Two suspected thieves lynched

Two suspected thieves were clubbed to death and three others were injured by the residents of Morjar village in Bhanwad taluka of Jamnagar district in the early hours of Sunday.

Two suspected thieves were clubbed to death and three others were injured by the residents of Morjar village in Bhanwad taluka of Jamnagar district in the early hours of Sunday. Two villagers were also injured.

Preliminary police investigation revealed that the alleged thieves had clashed with a group of villagers who were patrolling during the night in the wake of increasing incidents of theft in the village in recent times.

Villagers reportedly told police that they spotted the five moving around in a suspicious manner,and when they confronted the five,a fight erupted.

“Those killed had allegedly come with the motive of theft. According to reports,one of the thieves attacked when confronted by the villagers on patrol. The villagers retaliated and left two dead and three injured,” said Jamnagar SP Subhash Trivedi.

The injured have been admitted to G G Hospital in Jamnagar city,police said,adding they would check records to ascertain whether the deceased and the injured men were involved in theft cases in the past.

The deceased were identified as Anwarshah Fakir and Sagirshah Fakir,both residents of Dhargadh village in Jamnagar. Their three “accomplices” were identified as Jignesh Ganchi,Abbas Hussain and Javid Bawla.

Multiple wounds,inflicted by sharp as well as heavy objects,were found on the two bodies,police said,adding that post-mortem reports were awaited and they were yet to file an FIR.
