Trains shuffled due to redevelopment work of Surat railway station

Due to the redevelopment work of Surat station which is being undertaken by Surat Integrated Transport Corporation (SITCO) — a Special Purpose Vehicle (SPV) formed between the Indian Railways and the Government of Gujarat — multiple trains have been shuffled to other stations, according to an official statement from the Western Railway (WR).

The station, which is being redeveloped at an estimated cost of Rs 980 crore, is targeted to be completed by December 2026.

The Phase I of the station redevelopment work comprising major utility shifting works of RPF (Railway Protection Force) barracks, hospital unit and Running Room have been completed and handed over to the Railways. The work on the east side railway station building is also moving ahead at a great pace, said sources. Additionally, the concourse work going on at Platform No 4 in connection with the ongoing station redevelopment work (Phase-II) has been completed. The work on Platform No 2 and 3 will be started from January 8, according to the statement.

Due to the redevelopment work, the trains have been shuffled to other stations.

A total of 108 up line trains will halt at Udhna station instead of Surat, including the Ahmedabad-Pune Duronto, Ahmedabad-Howrah Express and Ahmedabad-Puri Express. Meanwhile, 61 upline trains will continue to halt at Surat.

A total of 67 down line trains will halt at Udhna station instead of Surat while 99 down trains will continue to halt at Surat railway station.

A total of 18 MEMU (Mainline Electric Multiple Unit) trains have been moved to Udhna railway station while five long distance passenger trains will either short terminate or short originate from Udhna, Bhestan or Navsari stations, during redevelopment of Surat station. ENS
