The training of polling officials, which has been going on in the city for the last three days, will conclude on March 31. The first-level randomisation of Electronic Voting Machines (EVM) is likely to begin soon in the state.

Randomisation is done to ensure that the EVMs are not tampered with. No preset data can be fed into an EVM once it is randomised. P F Vaghela,Deputy Mamlatdar and in-charge of the EVMs in Ahmedabad district, said: “The 0-level randomisation of EVMs,including the checking of the machines,is over now. The training of polling officers at the constituencies is going on and is likely to get over on Tuesday.”

He added: “We have also started dispatching the machines to all the constituencies in Ahmedabad. The general public from the nearby areas will also be trained on how to use these machines. There are 4,900 EVM units with the Ahmedabad district, which has 21 constituencies.”

Vaghela said,630 units have been sent to various constituencies. He added: “We have given 315 control units and 315 ballot units to the assistant returning officer. Every constituency will get 15 machines—10 for the training of officers and 5 for the general public.

Natwar Dodiya, deputy election officer of Ahmedabad district, said: “The first-level randomisation of EVMs will begin soon. The training of polling officials in Ahmedabad is about to get over and will gradually start in other districts as well.” After the first-level randomisation, the EVM machines will be labelled and dispatched for the forthcoming Lok Sabha elections.
