Surat police on Tuesday launched e-challan for those flouting traffic rules and an online application tracking system for police-related services like applying for various permits and licences.
The city police,under a public-private partnership project,have already installed CCTV cameras at several junctions in the city. Their feed is monitored by a command and control centre at the city police headquarters round-the-clock.
The e-challans (sent in conventional inland letters) would be delivered by postman at the house of those who are caught on CCTV cameras violating traffic rules.
Going a step further,the city police have tied up with Dena Bank to enable a violator to deposit the fine through cheques and cash with any of its branches or ATM centres having cheque-drop facility.
Police commissioner Rakesh Asthaana said,There are 18 branches of Dena bank and 24 ATM centres,where penalty amount can be deposited. One has to pay the fine within 15 days after getting e-challans through post.
The online application tracking system will operated through a new website,www.suratcitypoliceonlineseva.com. Each applicant will get a unique identity number using which he can see the status of his application on the website. The service will help those seeking entertainment licence,liquor permit,permission for holding public functions. People can also send complaints to the police chief.
