Surat to get state’s 3rd central jail

Surat is likely to get the state’s third central jail by the end of this month as the construction of the high-tech prison is nearing completion at Lajpore in Sachin area of the city. Constructed at a cost of approximately Rs 80 crore,the jail campus is spread over 55.6 acres on the Surat-Navsari road.

At present,only Ahmedabad and Vadodara have central jails in the state. “We are hopeful that the jail would be inaugurated by this month-end. Later,the inmates of the Surat sub-jail will be shifted here,” said state IG (prison) P C Thakur.
