Surat textile mill blast toll rises to three as worker, mother of two, succumbs to burn injuries
Police are awaiting DNA report to confirm the identity of the two labourers who died on the spot in the accident on Monday. They have been provisionally identified on the basis of attendance report.

Four days after the death of two labourers following an explosion inside a textile mill in Surat, a third worker succumbed to her injuries on Friday.
The deceased has been identified as Priyanka Sahoo (30), who was undergoing treatment at a private hospital.
Meanwhile, police are awaiting DNA report to confirm the identity of the two labourers who died on the spot in the accident that took place at Santosh Textile Mills on Monday.
The factory inspector has issued a closure notice to the mill situated in Surat’s Palsana area.
On Monday, a massive explosion took place in a drum washer machine, due to a possible rise in pressure, killing two labourers on the spot. Twenty two others, including Priyanka, incurred burn injuries and were shifted to a private hospital by the company authorities.
Police sources said that Priyanka hails from Uttar Pradesh and has been working at Santosh Mills for the last three years. Her husband works as a security guard at another factory. Priyanka, mother of two children, was engaged in cutting threads on the bales.
On Thursday, the factory inspector issued a closure notice to the mill.
Employees said the mill owner has not announced any compensation amount for the families of the deceased as well as those who are injured and undergoing treatment at the hospital.
Palsana police inspector B D Zalariya told The Indian Express, “Over 200 people were on the job when the explosion took place. We have reviewed the attendance record maintained by the company’s timekeeper. After contacting almost all the workers, we have found that two workers are missing. They are Devendra Singh (46) from Uttar Pradesh, and Roshan Kumar Sahoo (24) — a native of Bihar.”
He said, “DNA samples from the bodies have been taken. Family members of both these men have arrived, and their blood samples were taken and sent to FSL (Forensic Science Laboratory) for matching. The bodies are so badly burnt that they cannot be identified. Once we get the report from the FSL, we will hand over the bodies to their relatives. We are also waiting for reports from Gujarat Pollution Control Board (GPCB), the Factory Inspector, District Industrial Safety department, etc., so that we can move ahead in the case.”
No arrests have been made yet.
