The state Assembly is likely to have a stormy session on Tuesday with the opposition Congress seeking adjournment of House proceedings to discuss the law order situation which it says has deteriorated.
A notice seeking adjournment will be handed over to in-charge Assembly Speaker Dulatbhai Desai by three Congress members state party president Siddharth Patel, former leader of Opposition Arjun Modhwadia and Anil Joshiara an hour before the commencement of the proceedings.
The urgency for seeking adjournment of the Assembly proceedings and discuss law and order instead of the agenda for the day is allegedly the involvement of police and a former minister in fake encounters and extortion racket. Leader of Opposition in the State Assembly Shaktisinh Gohil said a full-day discussion was needed on the issue. A note circulated by the Congress among journalists said it was the first such incident in 50 years since Gujarat was formed.
The note also mentioned how the activists were allegedly feeling unsafe in the state and referred to the killing of RTI activist Amit Jethava.
Referring to the recent spurt in chain-snatching incidents in upmarket Drive-in Road and other posh areas of Ahmedabad West, the note said the number of such incidents over the last one month has exceeded the figures for a year. It said women no longer felt safe during morning and evening walks in Ahmedabad.
Referring to arrest of several senior police officers in the Sohrabuddin fake encounter case and the murder of his wife, the note said the state CID(crime) itself had now confessed that encounter of Tulsiram Prajapati was also a fake one.
Regarding states coastal security, the note alleged that the lax security allowed Pakistani terrorists inside India through the states coastal borders and attack Mumbai.
