States Annual Plan gets bigger by 34%

The Annual Plan for Gujarat for 2012-13 was finalised at Rs 51,000 crore at a meeting between Chief Minister Narendra Modi and Planning Commission Deputy Chairman Montek Singh Ahluwalia in New Delhi on Friday.

The Annual Plan for Gujarat for 2012-13 was finalised at Rs 51,000 crore at a meeting between Chief Minister Narendra Modi and Planning Commission Deputy Chairman Montek Singh Ahluwalia in New Delhi on Friday. This years plan size is 34.21% bigger than the previous years,when it was Rs 38,000 crore.

Modi said Gujarats growth strategy would continue to focus on human development and inclusive growth while aiming at sustainable double-digit growth with uniform development in agriculture,manufacturing and service sectors.

He said the government would make tedious efforts to increase the reach of its three flagship schemes Vanbandhu Kalyan Yojana,Sagarkhedu Sarvangi Vikas Yojana and Garib Samrudhhi Yojana.

Modi urged Ahluwalia to assist the state in expediting the requisite approval for the Sardar Sarovar Dam project saying its early completion would be in the overall interest of the nation.

Modi: Centre was clueless about upcoming problems

On the fourth quarter GDP growth of 5.3% the slowest growth in nine years Modi expressed his surprise that there was no anticipation from the Prime Minister and the Centre that the growth figures would be this bad.

The Prime Minister (Manmohan Singh) had boasted of 7% growth at the Pravasi Bhartiya Divas function in Jaipur a few months back. He reiterated the same in the Rajya Sabha in March, he told reporters,adding,But the government did not have any inkling of the upcoming problems. It only got to know yesterday how steep the fall was.
