‘Rs 71 crore spent for tourism ad in two yrs’

The state government has spent Rs 71 crore in past two years for “Khusboo Gujarat Ki”,an advertisement campaign by the tourism department.

The state government has spent Rs 71 crore in past two years for “Khusboo Gujarat Ki”,an advertisement campaign by the tourism department.

However,the Bollywood superstar Amitabh Bachchan,who has been featured as state ambassador in the advertisements,hasn’t take any fee for it.

In a reply to a question asked by Congress Chota Udaipur MLA Mohansinh Rathva,state Tourism Minister Saurabh Patel Monday said total over Rs 71 crore have been spent on the campaign including Rs 26.83 crore between January 2011 to December 2011 and Rs 44.78 crore between January 2012 and December 2012.

The minister said various mass mediums were used for the advertisement including TV,radio,websites and airport hoardings among others. The video advertisement featuring Bachchan showcases tourists places like Somnath,the Rann of Kutch,Mandvi,Motera and many such places.

The minister said the campaign has been successful as number of tourists have touch the mark of more than 2.23 crore in 2012-2013 from 1.70 crore in 2011-2012.
