Rly divisional engineer held on graft charges

The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has arrested a divisional engineer (central) posted in the Bhavnagar division of the Western Railway for taking a bribe of Rs 5,000 to extend a contract period.

The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has arrested a divisional engineer (central) posted in the Bhavnagar division of the Western Railway for taking a bribe of Rs 5,000 to extend a contract period.

Bhavnagar Divisional Railway Manager R Kuppan said on Sunday that H K Gupta,the accused,had demanded the bribe from the complainant to extend the deadline of the contract for civil works in railway stations.

As the complainant did not want to pay the bribe,he lodged a complaint with the Central Bureau of

Investigation in Ghandhinagar. Based on this,the CBI laid a trap and caught Gupta when he receiving the bribe.

He was produced before a designated court in Ahmedabad on Saturday and searches were conducted at his premises.

Kuppan said legal proceedings against Gupta were in progress and any decision regarding his suspension would be taken at the general manager level in Mumbai.
