The Gujarat High Court Thursday dismissed a public interest litigation (PIL) that had sought a CBI probe into the April 3 incident in Rajkot where five members of a Nepalese family immolated themselves.

The court said investigations were still on in the case and four persons named in the FIR by one of the relatives of the deceased had already been arrested and so it would not like to interfere.

The PIL,moved by Ahmedabad-based senior student leader,George Dias, had also sought compensation for the family members of the victims.

The petitioner had also sought directions to hold Rajkot police and municipal authorities responsible for failing to avert the unfortunate incident. Five members of a family had immolated themselves fearing their eviction from a plot of land in a housing society in Rajkot after they lost their case in a local court.
