Rain threatens Independence Day celebrations

While North Gujarat is likely to receive heavy rainfall, Saurashtra and Kutch regions may receive moderate to light showers, IMD officials said.

Gujarat is likely to witness moderate to heavy rainfall on Saturday and Sunday, threatening the Independence Day celebrations in the state, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) said Friday.

While North Gujarat is likely to receive heavy rainfall, Saurashtra and Kutch regions may receive moderate to light showers, IMD officials said.

In the week-long forecast, rain is expected to lash the state till Wednesday. The rainfall activity is attributed to low pressure area over northeast Madhya Pradesh.

On Friday, Deesa received the maximum rainfall of 23.4 mm, followed by Amreli (in Saurashtra) that received 11.8 mm shower.

Ahmedabad too received an average rainfall 4.6 mm.
