Noted film director Ketan Mehta recently interacted with aspiring filmmakers and movie enthusiasts in a day-long workshop organised at Vadodara. Mehta,who shared his experience of filming movies like Mirch Masala and Sardar,said that Gujaratis should feel proud that The Good Road is India’s entry to the Oscars. However,he added,“No cinema should be judged only by awards and nominations. A film can be good even if it is not nominated.”

New title

So far,it seemed that the title of ‘Sardar’ was liked by Chief Minister Narendra Modi,and his supporters lapped up the idea of equating him with Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel. Now,his propaganda machine has gone a step further. In some recent press releases issued by his government,Modi has been repeatedly mentioned as ‘Lok Nayak’ — a title used to describe Late Jayaprakash Narayan who gave the call for ‘Total Revolution’.

No bonus

With Diwali round the corner,employees of public and private sector companies have started counting their goodies,which they are expecting in the form of bonus or ex gratia. However,part-time workers of Gujarat State Road Transport Corporation have a reason to sulk. They say that they have not got ex gratia for the past seven years! Legal position about eligibility for getting ex gratia apart,it is amazing that they have kept their patience intact for such a long period.
