Pakistani pop singer Atif Aslam’s concert, scheduled to be held on November 23,has been cancelled, reportedly due to last-minute problems in organising the event.

Two days ago, activists of Vishwa Hindu Parishad and Bajrang Dal in Ahmedabad had strongly objected to the concert and sought its cancellation. The Ahmedabad police, however, claimed that the cancellation had no connection with the protests.

DCP M L Ninama (in-charge Zone I) said,“The concert has been cancelled by the organisers as they faced issues with the arrangements. There are several reasons concerning the organisers and not the protests.”

Aslam was reportedly not the first choice of the organisers. They had approached him after Sonu Nigam turned down the offer.

The permission from Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC),for the concert at Sardar Patel Stadium on September 23,was sought by the organisers for Sonu Nigam and not Atif Aslam. This was, however, changed later.

AMC Commissioner Guruprasad Mohapatra said,“The organisers had earlier sought the permission for Sardar Patel Stadium for Sonu Nigam’s concert. Later, they changed the singer without any changes in the date and venue and sought permission, which was granted.”
