Four Rajasthan policemen who were wanted in the Tulsiram Prajapati encounter case surrendered before Danta court Special Judge S S Joshi on Friday evening.
According to their counsel Ranjitsinh Gadhvi, the policemen had no idea about Gujarat CID (Crime) investigations and that their names had appeared in the Prajapati encounter case. It was only after Gujarat CID (Crime) filed its 1000-page chargesheet in the case that they came to know they had been declared absconding and so they appeared before the Danta Court,he said.
The four, assistant sub-inspector (ASI) Narayan Singh Chauhan, constables Yudhveer Singh,Dalpat Singh and Kartar Singh had been missing for last two months. Udaipur Inspector General of Police (IGP) T L Meena had said they all had gone on leave in May but had not reported for duty since then.
Gujarat CID (Crime) officers who went to look for them in Rajasthan had reportedly found that Kartar Singh went on five days leave from March 11,Yudhveer Singh on April 19 and Dalpat Singh on May 4,but had not returned to their posts. Recently,Gujarat police officers had sent a letter to their Rajasthan counterparts, seeking their help to trace them.
Gadhvi, however, claimed,A lawyer,Ranjendrasinh Rathod, from Udaipur brought the policemen from Rajasthan on Friday. They were not aware of their alleged involvement in the case. Since they are innocent, they were not scared to surrender before the court.
Meanwhile,Public Prosecutor R R Jalke said the CID may seek their remand on Monday.
