The Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad, the RSS’s student wing, on Monday demanded a CBI inquiry into the marks inflation controversy over the National Eligibility-cum-Entrance Test for undergraduate medical admission.

“In the ongoing issue of NEET 2024 results, questions arise on the credibility of the NTA. ABVP leaders are protesting nationally demanding a CBI probe into the entire issue. The probe being conducted by the NTA (National Testing Agency) chairman with a four-member panel will not be accepted, as the needle of suspicion is pointed towards the NTA. How funny it is that they are carrying out a probe! It is not fair,” ABVP national general secretary Yagyavalkya Shukla said in Gujarat’s Surat city, where the organisation’s three-day national executive meeting ended on Sunday.

A controversy erupted as a record number of candidates cleared NEET with full marks after the NTA awarded compensatory extra marks for lost exam time and a flaw in a question in physics.

The ABVP will hold nationwide protests demanding a CBI probe, Shukla added.

Shukla also said students union elections should be conducted timely in all institutions in the country. “The UGC should give directives to all education institutions on such elections,” he said.

Shukla said the ABVP had passed a resolution on five topics, including steps to prevent paper leaks, implementation of the National Education Policy across the country and the completion of pending constructions and staff recruitment at AIIMS, IIT, IIIT, IIM, NIT etc.

The ABVP had sought online suggestions from students and academics across the country for resolutions to be discussed at the Surat meeting.

About the paper leak issue, Shukla said, “We have carried out several protests at various places on this issue. The ABVP passed a resolution in Surat that the procedures of conducting examinations should be transparent. The Centre and state government should ensure that incidents like paper leak in competitive, university, board and entrance exams do not take place. The governments should take strict action.”

“Another issue which was discussed were that students are irregular on campus. We will start an awareness drive like ‘parishar chalo abhiyan’ to bring students to campuses… First ABVP volunteers will meet students and persuade them to go to campuses regularly. In the second phase, we will hold meetings with other stakeholders on how institutes can be made attractive for students,” he added.

Shukla also announced that the ABVP would hold three student parliaments in Delhi—one each for girls (on September 30), different tribes (on October 1) and Northeast students (on October 2).

Among other programmes and events, the ABVP will hold a national rally starting from the Northeast in January 2025.
