(Image source: X/@sanghaviharsh)A joint team of Gujarat Anti-Terrorist Squad and Delhi Narcotics Control Bureau , acting on a tip-off raided a factory in Madhya Pradesh’s Bhopal on Saturday and seized 907 kg mephedrone (MD) worth Rs 1,814 crore, said a statement. The officials also arrested two people.
The accused identified as Amit Chaturvedi and Sanyal Bane have been arrested for illegally manufacturing and selling the drug under the guise of a manufacturing unit in Bagroda Industrial Estate in Bhopal and further investigations are on, said the officials. Chaturvedi (57) is a resident of Bhopal whereas Bane (40) is a resident of Nashik in Maharashtra.
A release from Gujarat ATS Sunday stated, “During the preliminary interrogation of the arrested individuals, it was revealed that the accused, Sanyal Bane, had previously been arrested in 2017 in connection with an MD seizure case under the jurisdiction of Amboli Police Station of Mumbai and had served five years in jail”.
The statement added: “After his release, he conspired with co-accused Amit Chaturvedi to illegally manufacture and sell MD to earn substantial financial profits. As part of this plan, they rented a shed in Bagroda Industrial Estate, Bhopal, 6-7 months ago”.
“For the past 3-4 months, they had gathered raw materials and equipment for the illegal production of MD and had begun the chemical process and sale of the drug,” said the statemnet
Minister of State for Home Harsh Sanghavi hailed the operation and posted on X: “Kudos to Gujarat ATS and NCB (Ops), Delhi, for a massive win in the fight against drugs! Recently, they raided a factory in Bhopal and seized MD and materials used to manufacture MD, with a staggering total value of ?1814 crores!”
