Maninagar murder: alleged killers parents,brother held

The Maninagar police on Tuesday arrested the parents and brother of Dipesh Thakkar,the prime accused in the Bhumi Upadhyay murder case.

Inspector P J Trivedi,who is investigating the case,said: Parents and brother of Dipesh have been arrested under Section 201 of the Indian Penal Code. Dipeshs brother,Vikas Thakkar,was the one who had called the police,saying that Bhumis body is lying in the water tank. He destroyed the evidence and even threw the body in the water.

The police had been interrogating Bhumi and Dipeshs family for the last three days. On Monday,Bhumis family had threatened to revolt if the police failed to find any key link to the murder within 48 hours.

Jayant Raval,Bhumis maternal uncle,said: We were suspecting Vikas since the first day. When the police and family members arrived at the spot,Vikas was carrying all the four suicide notes in his pocket. On the day of the incident,he acted as if he did not know anything.

Bhumi Upadhyay,a resident of Arpan Apartment near L G Hospital in Maninagar,was found dead in an underground water tank in a tenement nearby Prerna Park Society on Saturday.

According to the police,Dipesh was her boyfriend and colleague.

The police said Dipesh allegedly killed Bhumi as she had refused his marriage proposal and was about to get engaged to someone else.
