Three countrymade liquor pouches were recovered from the Gandhi Ashram at Wadaj in Ahmedabad on Tuesday.

Three countrymade liquor pouches were recovered from the Gandhi Ashram at Wadaj in Ahmedabad on Tuesday. The police have claimed it an attempt to malign the Gandhians.

The Sabarmati police said the unconsumed liquor pouches were found in a portion of the Gandhi Ashram. Tests revealed the stuff to be countrymade liquor.

Investigating Officer,Inspector M B Joshi said: “It was done purposely with the intention to malign the reputation of Gandhians and the authorities at the Gandhi Ashram. Some unidentified persons had deliberately thrown the pouches in the compound and informed the local media to create a furore. There is no doubt about the integrity of the Ashram members.”

He added: “We are finding out who has played the mischief. We have spoken to the authorities at the Ashram if they have any suspicion on anybody. They have said they were unaware of the entire episode until a local channel aired it and the police was called by an Ashram member. We will check with the neighbourhood areas to find out the accused.”

The police have begun investigations.
