Karnataka Governor Vajubhai Vala’s son Bhavdip Vala filed a criminal complaint against oil miller Samir Shah late on Wednesday evening for allegedly forging his signature and trying to extort money. Shah is already facing arrest in connection with the alleged murder of his employee and has gone underground since early March.
Bhavdip, a businessman, had submitted a written complaint to Rajkot police commissioner Anupam Singh Gehlot on March 23. In his complaint, Bhavdip had stated that Shah, who is owner of Shree Rajmoti Industries, his brother Shaym Shah and seven others forged his signature and tried to extort money. He stated that he was a sleeping partner in Shree Rajmoti Industries, a mill which manufactures and markets a popular brand of edible oils, from 2006 to March 31, 2014.

However, Bhavdip received a legal notice from advocates of Dharmesh Madlani and Mitesh Sayani, oil traders of Jamnagar, stating he had issued them a cheque worth 21.74 lakh on January 21 this year towards payment against purchase of of bulk edible oil. The notice contended that Bhavdip had signed the cheque in the presence of Samir Shah and Shayam Shah but it bounced. The notice sought payment of Rs 21.74 lakh within 15 days.
“As a matter of fact, I have never met accused No 8 (Madlani) and No. 9 (Sayani) or done any business with them. Nor have I issued any cheque to them. From this, it flows that accused No.1 to nine have hatched a criminal conspiracy to pressurise me and extort a big amount from me,” Bhavdip had stated in his application.
After conducting a primary inquiry, B Division police lodged an FIR against Shah and six others under IPC Sections 406 (breach of trust), 420 (cheating), 467, 465, 468 (forgery), 384 (extortion), 500 (defamation) and 120b (criminal conspiracy) late on Wednesday evening. Besides Samir Shah, the FIR names Shaym Shah, Rajmoti manager Samir Gandhi, Rajednra Kakkad, Madlani and Sayani.
“After receiving his complaint in form of an application, A Divison police conducted an inquiry since their office is in their jurisdiction. During inquiry, evidence was found and on the basis of that, FIR has been registered at B Division police as the oil mill is located their jurisdiction,” Gehlot told The Indian Express on Thursday.
Incidentally, Shah is on the run since March 2 after he was booked as one of the accused who allegedly kidnapped and beat his employee Dinesh Daxini to death . The victim was managing a branch of Rajmoti Industries in Ahmedabad. Besides Shah, Gandhi, police sub-inspector MC Maru, Yogesh Bhatt, assistant sub-inspector of police, are also accused in Daxini’s murder. Daxini had collapsed in Bedipara police post on the night of March 1 and died with his body bearing marks of injuries caused by beating.
Gandhi is presently in judicial custody. He has reportedly told police that he had brought Daxini from Ahmedabad to Rajkot on the orders of Samir Shah in connection with alleged irregularities in accounts. Samir Shah, who is also incumbent president of Rajkot Chamber of Commerce and Industry as well of Saurashtra Oil Mills Association has moved Rajkot district and sessions court for anticipatory bail. The bail application is pending.
