The Jamnagar police on Sunday arrested a 29-year-old local factory owner for allegedly raping his minor domestic help several times in 2009. The matter came to light when the girl (16) had a miscarriage at a private hospital on Saturday.

The police said the victim’s family was unaware of the incident until Saturday when she was rushed to a hospital following a severe abdominal pain. “They came to know about the incident when the doctor told them that the girl was four-and-a half-month pregnant,” said a police officer.

He said a complaint was lodged against Kaushik Hirani,a resident of Ranjitnagar, based on which he was arrested. He runs a factory of brass parts.

According to the complaint, the victim, along with her mother and aunt, worked at Hirani’s house as a domestic help. Later, the girl started going to his house alone to wash clothes.

Hirani had raped the girl for the first time in September. He later threatened her and asked to remain mum on the incident. After that,he raped the girl four times between September and December.
