A team from the Airport Authority of India (AAI) on Saturday inspected the site of the proposed cargo and passenger green field airport near Dholera Special Investment Region (SIR) in Ahmedabad district.
“A seven-member AAI team today visited the proposed site for green field airport at Dholera,” Gujarat Chamber of Commerce and Industry (GCCI) real estate committee chairman Vijay Shah said. Shah had met the AAI team yesterday as a representative of the Chamber and briefed them about the requirements of the new airport in the Ahmedabad district as the existing airport here has no potential for expansion,he said.
The team,with AAI general manager R Rajshekhar as its co-ordinator,will also conduct techno-economical feasibility study for the proposed airport and would submit the report to the Ministry of Civil Aviation,he said,adding the team will study traffic potential,size of airport,cost of infrastructure and run-way orientation.
A senior government official in the Chief Minister’s office confirmed the visit of the AAI team to Ahmedabad for Dholera airport survey.

Bar Council employee dismissed for misappropriation of accounts
The Bar Council of Gujarat on Saturday decided to dismiss one of its employees found guilty of misappropriating accounts according to a special investigation report. Former secretary of the Bar Council of Gujarat,A D Vyas,and accountant Sanjay Panchal were jointly found responsible for misappropriation of Rs 35 lakh between 1997 and 2000. When the council office was shifted in 2004,undeposited cheques and drafts were recovered,after which the two employees were suspended and a departmental inquiry was ordered.
After a special committee comprising executive committee chairman Anil Kella,Vijay H Patel and Roshan Mirza found anomalies in the accounts,Kirit Soni was appointed as special investigating auditor in the case. A committee comprising of three board members was formed to probe the matter. Based on their report,Panchal was fired. Vyas was removed earlier and a case was lodged at the Sola Police station in 2004.

3 more swine flu deaths in state
Swine flu has caused three more deaths in Gujarat while 21 new cases of the H1N1 infection have been reported,Health Department officials said. According to the officials,25-year-old Rakesh Varma died of swine flu at Civil Hospital today. While two persons,Zamila Ahmed (26) at PDU hospital in Rajkot and Laxmiben Vajir (25),at Civil Hospital here died of swine flu yesterday but their deaths were reported on Saturday.

Girl goes missing,father alleges abduction
A man lodged a complaint with the city police on Saturday that his 15-year-old daughter has been kidnapped. The city police had earlier lodged a missing complaint in this case.
The Narol police said that the victim,Reshma Ghanchi,went missing from her home in Calico Nagar in Narol on Wednesday. The family has alleged that the girl was abducted by two persons who were enemies with her father,Noormohammad Ghanchi. Police said the accused,Majnu Tiger and Imran,abducted the girl to settle a business rivalry.
