Kanchi Pontiff to give away 75th Avatara Mahotsav awards today
Ahmedabad: Jagadguru Sankaracharya Sri Jayendra Saraswathi Swamiji of Kanchi Kamakoti Peetham has arrived in the city for a five-day visit from Friday. The Sankaracharya is here as part of his 75th birth year celebrations– 75th Avatara Mahotsav— being conducted every month at 100 centres across the country during the current year. Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi will be the chief guest for an awards function to be organised on Sunday at Shri Thakorebhai Desai Hall,near Law Garden in Ahmedabad. Kanchi Pontiff will give away 75th Avatara Mahotsav awards to vedic scholar Dr Bhagavatiprasad Devshankar Pandya,Gujarati poet Rajendra Shukla,musician Pandit Ram Narayan and Blind People’s Association Trustee Nandini P. Munshaw in recognition of their excellent services in their respective fields. Prof. H L Trivedi,Director,Smt. G R Doshi and Smt. K M Mehta Institute of Kidney Diseases and Research Center and Sooryakant Parikh,the Chairman of National Sanitation & Environment Improvement Foundation will be specially honoured by Swamiji for their selfless service in medical and sanitation sectors.
23-year-old girl killed by lover
VADODARA: A 23-year old girl was reportedly killed by her estranged lover on Friday evening. Police said the victim had stayed with the accused,Piyush Kumar Soni,a resident of Soma Talav,for a month. But they were not married.
According to the complaint filed by the victims mother,she was stabbed four times and died on the spot, said Inspector D R Dhamal.
