Autorickshaw driver dies of heat stroke
An autorickshaw driver died apparently of heatstroke in the Ghatloia area of the city on Wednesday. The deceased,identified as Naran Patel (32),was a resident of Patrwali Chali in Chamanpura.
Patel was found lying dead outside his autorickshaw near Karnavati Apartments at Ghatloia. The Ghatlodai police suspect he died of heat stroke as he had been working round the clock for the last few days.
Investigating Officer,Sub-Inspector B V Begadia,said: The exact cause of his death is not known yet. Eyewitnesses told us that when he was stepping out of his autorickshaw,he fell down due to heat stroke. He received an injury on the head after falling down.
The police added the postmortem report could not confirm whether he had suffered a heart attack or had any other medical problem. They are waiting for a forensic science report to confirm the cause of his death. A case of accidental death has been registered.
Trade union leader felicitated
Western Railway Mazdoor Sangh (WRMS) general secretary J G Mahurkar was accorded a warm welcome at Ahmedabad railway station early this week for being conferred Dronacharya Award for his 50-year service in the trade union.
Maharashtra CM Ashok Chavan felicitated him and six others in Mumbai on May 1. Ahmedabad and Vadodara division WRMS office-bearers including R A Bhatia and Sharif Khan were present on the occasion.
Luggage trolleys introduced at Ahmedabad rly station
Passengers at the Ahmedabad railway station were in for a pleasant surprise on Tuesday when they found luggage trolleys at their service. Divisional Railway Manager Ashok Garud launched the service for the passengers on platform number 1 on Wednesday. A press release said the trolley would be utilised against a payment of Rs 5 enabling the passengers to take their luggage till the point where autorickshaws and taxis are parked. Initially,20 trolleys have been introduced,and they will be parked on all the platforms in the coming weeks when passenger elevators will be operational on all platforms.
CM asks teachers to adopt innovative methods
Chief Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday advised teachers not to limit themselves to syllabus or textbooks,adding that they should visit students houses to create stronger bonds.
He was speaking at the launch of a five-day training programme for secondary schoolteachers attended by over 83,338 teachers and principals.
The programme was launched at the Bhaskaracharya Institute for Space Applications and Geo-Informatics.
He further said that the present teaching system is outdated,and that teachers should adopt innovative methods. ENS
CII regional chief calls for fundamental transformation
AHMEDABAD: The chairman of the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII),western region,on Wednesday emphasised the need for fundamental transformation for the companies wanting to become the next generation firms in the coming 15 years.
Arun Nanda,who is also the director of Mahindra & Mahindra Limited,said this at the 9th edition of CII CEO Network Series in Vadodara.
He encouraged Vadodara-based CEOs to think about implementing some aspects of corporate transformation. The fundamental of these companies was to address the existing business challenges,exploit opportunities,and change ahead of the curve,he added.
Responding to a question of why and how to undertake fundamental corporate transformation,Nanda cited cases of Samsung,IBM,Kodak and GE moving from business enterprise to great world-class organisation.
Drawing experience from his global corporate exposure,Nanda said that world over,improvement in performance has been the single most important factor behind the transition of organisations from a business enterprise to world-class organisation. ENS
