New CEPT unit for research in building designs
AHMEDABAD: The Centre for Environment Planning and Technology (CEPT) University on Saturday formally launched a new facility called the Centre for Sustainable Environment and Energy (CSEE),and announced it will build a new green building on its premises.
Minister of State for Industry Saurabh Patel inaugurated the centre today. CSEE is a joint initiative of CEPT,the Central and state governments,the United States government and the USAID. It will conduct research in areas like building designs,energy modelling to predict energy consumption,and test energy efficiency of building components,said Professor Rajan Raval,CSEE coordinator. The new building will make use of renewable energy and its construction will be sponsored by Gujarat Energy Development Agency (GEDA).

Hawala racket busted in MP,4 held
Indore: The Madhya Pradesh Police on Saturday claimed to have busted an inter-state hawala racket by arresting four persons and recovering Rs 80 lakh from them. Acting on a tip-off,the police nabbed the four from the Gangwal Bus Stand area last night and seized the cash,which they had neatly packed in special jackets. They were identified as Rajesh Patel,Kirit Patel,Rakesh Patel and Ashok Patel. They all belong to Gujarat and were working in Indore for quite sometime,the police said. The police are probing their local contacts from whom they got the money,while the search is on for the supposed recipients of the cash.

Trader cheated of Rs 5 lakh
AHMEDABAD: A trader from C G Road area in Ahmedabad was allegedly cheated of over Rs 5 lakh. Surendra Vaidya,who deals in iron ore works,was cheated by two men,who had approached him as customers,said Navrangpura police. On February 23,Sanjay and Paresh had purchased iron equipment worth over Rs 5 lakh from Vaidya. They reportedly gave Vaidya a forged cheque of Rs 5,20,638. The police said the victim came to know about the cheating when he went to deposit the cheque two days later. The police have lodged a case of fraud and taken up further investigations.
Man robbed of Rs 2 lakh
AHMEDABAD: A resident of Vasna was allegedly robbed of cash outside an ATM at Anandnagar area in Ahmedabad on Saturday. The police said the incident occurred when the victim,Chandrakant Dave,came out of the ATM after withdrawing money. Two youths reportedly came on a motorbike and snatched away the bag containing Rs 2 lakh from him. The police have registered a case of theft.

Forest officials capture 4 leopards in Junagadh
Vadodara: Forest officials in the Veraval town of Junagadh district have managed to capture four leopards from Ishwariya and Mandor villages. The officials,who were on the job for last few days,captured one leopard everyday since March 9.
K R Waghasiya,a senior forest officer,said that they have sent the predators to the Sakkar Baug Zoo in Junagadh.
Sources said people living in this area have heaved a sigh of relief now as the leopard menace is believed to be over. PTI
